Mississippi Pardons On Hold
January 12th, 2012
A Mississippi judge has filed a temporary hold on the release of 21 of the 200-plus prisoners given pardons or clemency by outgoing governor Haley Barbour. The pardons have sparked outrage from victims’ families, who say they fear for their own safety. The State Attorney General argues that Barbour failed to file the pardon requests thirty days before they were granted, thereby rendering them unconstitutional.
