France Built a Fake Paris to Fool the Nazis
Here’s some quirky history for you. During World War I, France built a fake version of Paris in hopes of avoiding bombing by the German air force. The dummy version was just north of the real city of lights, and came complete with a fake Champs Elysee and huge cardboard cutouts. With primitive radar systems back then, the plan might have worked. But the war ended before construction of the fake city was completed.

If you’re an online dater, there’s no need to bother Photoshopping your profile pic to make yourself look better. According to a new study, women can pretty accurately gauge how attractive a man is based solely on how he describes himself. It all depends on the level of confidence displayed in a man’s writing. So be bold! The more confident you sound, the hotter she’ll think you are.

Idiot Steals Laptop During Jury Duty
Here’s a tip: If you’re on jury duty, never steal from a courthouse. Ramon Torrich, 55, is accused of stealing a laptop from a videographer in a Miami courthouse. Security footage apparently showed Torrich swiping the Macbook, which was recovered from him in the jury pool room. He described his behavior to officers as ’stupid’.

Wannabe Holiday Thief Traps Self in Chimney
Ho-ho-ho! Christmas came early for police in Georgia when authorities received a call from a concerned neighbor saying they could hear someone shouting from the chimney in the house next door. No, it wasn’t jolly Saint Nick. It was a teen burglar who’d gotten trapped in the chimney, trying to sneak inside. The thief spent 10 hours trapped before firefighters pulled him out. And he wasn’t given milk, or cookies.

Ali G Town Gets New Name
Sacha Baron Cohen’s fictional character, Ali G, hails from a British town called Staines. But residents of that very real town are unimpressed with the attention the character brings them. As a result, they recently voted to officially change the name of their home to Staines Upon Thames. It will officially be re-named in May of 2012.

Ohio Druggie Breaks Into House and Decorates
Police say a man with a long history of drug charges entered an Ohio home and put up their Christmas decorations. 44-year-old Terry Trent was allegedly under the influence of the designer drug Bath Salts when he entered a Vendalia home, lit candles and did some decorating. He reportedly “politely apologized” when he was discovered, before being taken into custody by police.
