The American people have spoken, and they want a compromise! According to the latest Reuters/Ipsos poll, 56-percent of US citizens support a budget plan that mixes spending cuts with tax increases. This pretty much falls in line with what the President has been asking for. And fair or not, 31-percent of respondents feel the Republicans are responsible for the current stalemate.
Mexican Soldiers Cross Border Into Texas
Nearly three-dozen uniformed Mexican soldiers crossed the border into southern Texas on Tuesday – without authorization. The feds have kept a lid on the episode but what we know is that there were no injuries and no gunfire exchanged. After border guards caught up with the 33 soldiers, it was determined to be inadvertent and they were sent back to Mexico. Oops!
US Wealth Gap Widest On Record
New Census data shows that the financial gap between whites and other ethnic groups in the US is the widest it’s been since records began! On average, whites have twenty times the net worth of blacks, and eighteen times that of Hispanics. Experts blame the disparity on the country’s uneven economic recovery since the recession.
UK Tells Gaddafi Diplomats To Get Out
The UK has officially kicked out Libyan diplomats loyal to Muammar Gaddafi. Foreign Secretary William Hague announced that they were no longer recognizing the Gaddafi regime – as far as they’re concerned, the rebels are in charge. He says that the National Transitional Council are committed to a more democratic and open Libya.
Israel May Nix Agreements With Palestine Over UN Bid
Israel says they might scrap the Oslo accords over Palestine’s plan to seek membership in the United Nations. The Oslo accords – signed in 1993 – created the Palestinian authority, and were the framework for negotiations and relations between the two sides. Currently, Palestine is seeking membership for a state that has borders that pre-date the 1967 Six Day War.
Piers Morgan Accused In Phone Hacking Scandal
Former Daily Mirror reporter James Hipwell has been quoted claiming that voicemail hacking was a common practice while current CNN prime-time host Piers Morgan was editor of the paper. He claims the paper targeted the voicemails of celebrities such as the Spice Girls and soccer manager Sven-Goran Erikkson. For his part Morgan has vehemently denied the allegations.
