Syrian Army Split Over Orders

Conflict is brewing between Syrian army units over following orders to crack down on protesters. The infighting is significant because President Assad’s army has always been the regime’s fiercest defender. Cracks are now starting to show in Assad’s base of support. 200 low-level members of Syria’s ruling Baath party also resigned over the crackdown.
